Sally Hands
I trained originally in painting and drawing at a time when students at Edinburgh Art College were given three days a week of life drawing, and evenings of anatomy and portrait drawing. I still really value this and almost always draw from life, rather than photos.
I became a printmaker and in 2012 had an Arts Council grant for a year to develop my work as a wood engraver. I was elected to the SWE in 2015. Since then I have worked as an illustrator, and in 2017 won the John Purcell Award at the National Original Print Exhibition. My prints are in several public collections including the National Library of Wales.
I’ve lived in South Wales for thirty years and love drawing around Swansea and Port Talbot.
