David Dobson

David Dobson is a self-taught as an engraver and spent the first several years laboriously re-inventing the wheel. David was elected to the Society of Wood Engravers in 2015 and the Art Workers’ Guild in 2020 and teaches wood engraving workshops in the Slade School of Fine Art.

In addition to wood engraving, David is a geologist and mountaineer, and his engravings depict the high and rocky places which are his spiritual home.  His current ‘Towers of London’ project seeks to draw out some of the parallels between landscape and cityscape.  It is not by coincidence that we talk about “rock architecture” when describing the crags and cliffs of the high mountains.
